All I want is…

a tiny home I can call all my own, where every step echoes with the rustle of my dreams;

a love like the waves, gushing out to meet me and yet, returns home each day, leaving me, the shore, with my shells and memories.

a soul as light as a feather, yet pregnant with promise; promises of light and joy and eternal freedom.

a child, not from my womb, for then I’ll smother her with bonds; but a kindred soul, who sees me for who I am; a baby that I shall feed with love, droplets of dew mixed with chunks of the moon.

All I want is…

To be free, my way.

The aching heart

 If  I were to be born again,

I’d want to be your first love;

I’d want to make you giddy

with the tremors of passion;

There would not be need

to ‘learn to love’, or the promise

of odds and ends, quite seductive;

maddening love is what I hope

to evoke in you, in another life.

my earthy beauty replaced

by a form more alluring;

I’d dazzle and scintillate

not soothe and blend, like I am today.

Another life, another day,

I’d be the first woman you knew;

your eyes would spot me in a crowd

Desire and madness would rule,

not the duty and acceptance of today.

Another life.

Another day.

And that’s a promise I’ll keep.

The High School Boy

Each year, newspapers carry articles on how the girls have outperformed the boys in the board exams. This is easy to understand : Girls work harder, are less distracted by sports and the opposite sex and usually, ” want to please.” They are conscientious about school work and are motivated to do well. The average school boy on the other hand, battles between his thirst for knowledge and his need to appear “cool”.  He does not want to “study” for an exam, he’ d rather “get” what he has to know well.  But how is this boy in class? What motivates him to do well? Over the years,  these are the few things I have observed,

  • Boys bring a sense of adventure into the class. Their questions, to a large extent, are vague, the teacher is forced to step into unexplored territory.
  • They wouldn’t do anything just because you asked them to. It has to be challenging enough for them to take up and follow through.
  • Many a time, girls develop an aversion for the teacher who treats them badly or has an irritating quirk. Boys deal better with these : they are good at ignoring what they don’t like.
  • A large majority are not interested in maintaining ” notes” . If they feel they’ve understood the concept, they are happy.
Perhaps the final scores do not reflect their  ” joie d’ apprendre” (joy of learning) , but they need to be thanked for all the joy along the way, during the process of learning, opening out newer vistas and exploring unchartered territory. If his distractedness can be channelized in the right way, the average high school boy can surely give his teacher a lesson or two, on the right way to teach.

Yesterday, I asked you to be my friend;

Today, you smiled at me, your blooms

Sealing the fate of our bond, forever.

The promise of sweetness, the allure of a dream

however high up it may be, is a treasure;

Cling on, to the magic of tomorrow.

Joy, perched high up on the tree,

Here now, gone the next moment,

Isn’t that how Life is too, a flash of eternity?

Life’s Lessons

Over the years, many have tried to teach me things. They have tried to impart “wisdom”, that is not sold on the streets. Little things that I ought to know, little things that could “transform”my life. While I followed a few of these nuggets of “good advice”wholeheartedly, some actually made me sadder, but not wiser. There’s a lot of it that I do not subscribe to, even today. Yet, there are two people who have actually changed my life’s course, in their own special way, without giving any of those prized “constructive”advice. These are two men, who are extremely important in my life, they have influenced greatly the way I think. They have made a difference, just by being there. I have used two different colours to differentiate between them; I do not want to reveal who they are as this space is too frivolous for confessions of that kind.  Here are a few things that I learnt from them:

Do not ever feel sorry for anyone, by doing that, you assert your own superiority. Act on what you feel, do not shrug off by saying “Oh, poor soul!”

Always make sure your time is wisely spent, doing something, Sloth is an enemy that can destroy lives and families, even worse than drink.

Give as much as you can to those in need, all our lives are connected.

Poetry and literature have enormous power over our thoughts and actions, so keep reading.

Always make sure you are dressed in your best, success is attracted to people who look good.

Lungfishes are the oldest species of fish in the world.

Life is too short to worry about people who do not matter, let them go and free yourself.

Always follow your dream and live an authentic life, despite what others around you say.

Watch what you say, for your thoughts are formed through your words. Choose to speak positive.

It is never late to express yourself, to hug more and to kiss more. After all, we have but one life.

I am sure I have a lot more to learn from the one I have quoted in red, and I look forward to it. Life is made richer because I have him with me.
